uMngeni-uThukela Water wishes to advise customers and members of the public that operations at the Maphumulo Waterworks have been temporarily interrupted due to community protest action in the area.
The protest action has prevented employees from safely accessing and operating the waterworks.
The interruption of operations at the plant is affecting water supply to communities in wards 3 to 12 under the Maphumulo Local Municipality. Residents in these areas may experience water supply interruptions until operations at the waterworks are restored.
uMngeni-uThukela Water is monitoring the situation closely and is engaging with the relevant authorities and stakeholders with the aim of restoring operations as soon as conditions allow.
The safety of employees and contractors remains a priority and personnel will only return to the facility once it has been confirmed that it is safe to do so.
uMngeni-uThukela Water apologises for the inconvenience caused and will provide further updates as the situation develops.
