uMngeni-uThukela Water wishes to inform the public that the raw water supply to the Mhlabatshane Water Works was interrupted on 13 October 2026 following damage to the incomer power cable at the Dam Pump Station. The damage was caused by the theft of electrical cables supplying power to the pump station.
Extensive repair work is required to replace the damaged cables and restore the system to full operation. uMngeni-uThukela Water has mobilised the necessary technical resources and repair teams to expedite the restoration of electricity supply to the Dam Pump Station and the resumption of raw water abstraction.
The disruption to the Mhlabatshane Water Supply System has affected water supply to the following areas:
- Phongolo
- Phungashe
- Ngcengezi
- Mqangala
- Nomageja
- Gumbatane
- Mehlomnyama
- Nhlalwane
Consumers in the affected areas are advised that water supply interruptions and low pressure may be experienced until the repairs have been completed and the system is fully operational.
